Teeth Whitening

Teeth whitening is a simple, non-invasive dental treatment used to change the colour of natural tooth enamel, and is a great way to enhance the beauty of your smile.

Benefits of teeth whitening

Having clean, white teeth can have a major impact on your appearance, and self-confidence. Often times, your smile is the first thing people notice about you. Having a great looking smile is an easy way to leave a strong and lasting impression, every time.

Types of teeth whitening

There are many different types of whitening products available for consumers looking to brighten up their smiles. At our office, we provide both at home whitening products, as well as in office whitening treatments, also known as bleaching.

At home whitening

Many patients prefer at home whitening as you can whiten while you work, watch TV, or even sleep! With at home whitening, we create whitening trays by taking a mold of your mouth. If you’ve had a mouth guard mold taken for sports, this process is essentially the same.

Once we have your trays made, we will provide you with a whitening gel based on your whitening goals and tooth sensitivity. The gel will be inserted into the trays, and worn for 1-2 hours at a time. Initially we recommend patients whiten once per day for 1-2 weeks, at which point we will reevaluate your progress.

In office whitening

With in office whitening, we apply a bleaching solution to your teeth during an appointment that typically lasts about 30 to 60 minutes. Although you will see a noticeable result after just one treatment, achieving the desired result may take multiple treatments depending on your goals and personal characteristics.

In office whitening provides a quicker result for patients, but can cause some minor discomfort in patients with tooth sensitivity. For patients with sensitive teeth, we typically recommend at home whitening.

Professional whitening vs. over the counter whitening

There are a number of over the counter whitening options available, however, these costly products often deliver a poor result when compared to professional whitening products. At Dr. Beatrice Leung Dentistry, we only provide whitening products that we know will deliver whitening results for our patients in a safe and effective manner.
